A house divided

The phrase, “a house divided cannot stand” is found in a speech given by Abraham Lincoln in 1857. Lincoln addressed the growing national divide over the issue of slavery. Lincoln’s  message is that the entire structure is threatened when division exists. Continue reading

…and then, they applauded.

Applause is a natural expression of gratitude or appreciation.  It feels right to clap and cheer when a performance is pleasing or when you wish to express your thanks to an individual or group for a job well done.  The best applause is spontaneous and genuine and celebratory.   There is, however, a time when applause can be painful and feel inappropriate.
